Coast Guard medevacs 36-year-old man from cruise ship Carnival Dream 173 miles south of Main Pass

NEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 36-year-old passenger from the cruise ship Carnival Dream 173 miles southeast of Main Pass.

Watchstanders with the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report a passenger was reportedly suffering from acute appendicitis and needed immediate medical attention.

The 8th Coast Guard District responded by launching an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama.

The helicopter crew safely hoisted the patient and flew him to West Jefferson Medical Center for further medical treatment.
He was reportedly listed in stable condition.
