Coast Guard medevacs 3-year old boy 200 miles SE of Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 3-year-old boy from the cruise ship Carnival Miracle at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday, approximately 200 miles southeast of Elizabeth City.

Coast Guardsmen in Miami notified watchstanders in Portsmouth, Va., Tuesday evening after a physician aboard the Carnival Miracle requested a medevac for the child.

The rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City and a Coast Guard flight surgeon are transferring the child to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington, N.C., for evaluation and treatment.
