Coast Guard medevacs 13-years-old boy from overturned boat

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopterNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard responded to a distress call from three males aboard an overturned vessel in the vicinity of Little Lake near Galliano, Louisiana, Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department at 7:45 p.m. about an overturned vessel and redirected a Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 helicopter aircrew for search and rescue.

The MH-65 helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at 8:25 p.m. One of the males, a 13-year-old boy, was reported to have sustained an injury and was transported to Lady of the Sea General Hospital in Cut Off, Louisiana, at 9:06 p.m.    

A member of the MH-65 helicopter aircrew stayed behind with the other males.

The MH-65 helicopter aircrew returned to the scene at 9:19 p.m. and brought the two males to Lady of the Sea General Hospital at 10:02 p.m. 

The 13-year-old boys condition was currently unknown.
