Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing vessel in Gulf of Mexico

8th Coast Guard District NewsNEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a 29-year-old man from a fishing vessel approximately 64 miles southwest of Houma, Tuesday, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 8 p.m. that a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel, Fair Play, was suffering from abdominal pains.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew to the scene where the crew successfully hoisted the man from the vessel and transferred him to awaiting EMS at the Houma Jet Center.

“Our missions call for us to stay ready at all times and maintain a persistent presence on the water,” said Lt. Evelyn Bruno, Sector New Orleans command duty officer. “It’s as much a part of our organizational DNA as our core values: honor, respect and devotion to duty.”
