Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 to hold charity events

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Crewmembers from Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 are scheduled to hold a new-toy drive in front of the Toy’s “R” Us location in Pinole, Calif., and a non-perishable food drive in front of the Safeway in Bay Farm, Alameda, Calif., Dec. 5-6 and 12-13, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New toys and non-perishable food can be dropped off at the Coast Guard unit’s 25-foot Response Boats at either of the donation locations.

“We have a lot of volunteers from the MSST for the toy and food drive,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Cory McDermott. “Our goal is to get enough donations to fill both boats with new toys and food, and it’s a great way for us to give back to the community and help those in need during the holiday season.”

The donated toys will be given to the Oakland Children’s hospital and the donated food will be given to the Alameda Food Pantry.
