Coast Guard, locals searching for missing swimmer in New Smyrna Beach

d7ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Coast Guard boat and helicopter crews are searching alongside local authorities for a 25-year-old man who was reported missing while swimming in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Sunday afternoon.

Missing is Debrice Dzoyem, 25, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dzoyem was reportedly trying to assist a friend who was struggling in the surf when he apparently got caught in a rip current and was not seen resurfacing.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified at 12:57 p.m.

Searching are a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon Inlet in New Smyrna Beach., and local authorities including lifeguards and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
