Coast Guard Investigating Possible Gasoline Spill From Tanker Crash

Oakland – CBS5.com is reporting that

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating whether any hazardous materials were spilled into the Oakland-Alameda Estuary after a tanker crashed and exploded on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland this morning.

“From what we understand, there are storm drains in the area that could potentially discharge to the water,” Coast Guard Lt. Junior Grade Steve Barry said.

While the Coast Guard has not confirmed a spill into the estuary, it has received reports of an oily sheen between Coast Guard Island and the Oakland area.
