Coast Guard investigating missing person near Humboldt Bay

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif., – The Coast Guard responded to a report of a man overboard early this morning after the crew of a fishing boat said a shipmate had fallen overboard approximately 16 miles offshore from Humboldt Bay.

At 2:50 a.m., Coast Guard Group Humboldt Bay dispatched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter to search for the missing man. The helicopter crew dropped a Self Locating Data Marker Buoy and searched for two and a half hours but were unable to find the fisherman.

Investigations are being conducted by Coast Guard Sector San Francisco and the Coast Guard Investigative Service. No further details are available at this time.
