NEW YORK – Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team New York (MSST-91106) hosted the inaugural memorial 5K run and 1.5 mile walk for Petty Officer 3rd Class Shaun Lin, Oct. 13, 2017, on Staten Island.

Over 50 Coast Guard members and their families honored Lin’s memory by taking part in the inaugural run and walk through the Fort Wadsworth area on Staten Island.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Shaun Lin“Although Petty Officer Lin was with this unit for a short time, he is an endearing part of our unit and will always be a member of MSST New York,” said Lt. Cmdr. Devon Brennan, commanding officer, MSST New York. “Since he was a native of Queens, it has special meaning to host this event here in New York City.”

MSSTs were established in 2004 to fulfill a requirement for a higher maritime security posture that arose as the result of 9/11. MSSTs help guard the nation’s ports, maritime facilities, and associated waterways.
