Coast Guard, family search for fisherman near San Leon, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing fisherman in the Houston Ship Channel near Eagle Point.

Missing is Ba Van Nguyen, 49-years-old of Vietnamese ethnicity.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a report at 6:52 p.m. Friday, from the good Samaritan vessel, Ian Earle, Nguyen’s 54-foot shrimp boat, Regina Pacis, was seen spinning in circles with gear set in the channel with no one aboard.

The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Houston 29-foot response boat crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew.

Nguyen reportedly left San Leon around 5 a.m., and was expected to arrive back in port at approximately 2 p.m.
