Coast Guard Cutter Sherman medevacs woman in remote Alaska for medical treatment

KODIAK, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, forward-deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter Sherman, medevaced a 37-year-old female who was reportedly suffering from intestinal complications from Dutch Harbor medical clinic to Cold Bay Monday morning.

The 17th District Coast Guard command center watchstanders received a call from Dutch Harbor Medical Clinic personnel Sunday at 9:50 p.m. requesting a medevac for the women.

The helicopter crew launched from the deck of the Sherman at 10:52 p.m. and safely transferred the patient from the medical clinic to awaiting Life Flight medical personnel at 3:43 a.m. in Cold Bay. Life Flight then was able to safely transport the women to Anchorage for further medical treatment.

Dolphin helicopter crews are forward-deployed from Kodiak with Coast Guard cutters throughout Alaska’s waters to reduce response times to emergencies.
