Coast Guard Cutter Maria Bray receives new commanding officer

Southeastern Coast Guard News
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — Crewmembers stationed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Maria Bray received a new commanding officer during a change of command ceremony held at Sector Jacksonville in Atlantic Beach Friday.

Chief Warrant Officer Michael Lemay relieved Chief Warrant Officer Christopher M. Cartwright of command of the Maria Bray, a 175-foot keeper-class coastal buoy tender.

Capt. Tom Allan, commander of Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, presided over the ceremony.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of a command to confirm to the men and women of the unit that the authority of command is maintained. The ceremony is a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.

Crewmembers aboard Coast Guard buoy tenders conduct maintenance and repair to the various aids to navigation along the coasts, rivers and other navigable waterways throughout the nation. Such aids include buoys, day markers, channel markers and various other aids.
