Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw leads merchant vessels through ice in St. Marys River and Whitefish Bay

With the 2013 ice-breaking season lasting longer than usual due to higher-than-average snowfall across the northern Great Lakes the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw are putting in long hours helping merchant vessels to travel through the St. Marys River and Lake Superior’s Whitefish Bay.
