Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane gets new commanding officer

5th Coast Guard District News
Portsmouth, VA – Cmdr. Michael Cribbs relieved Cmdr. Adam Wasserman as Commanding Officer of the Portsmouth-based Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane during a change of command ceremony Tuesday at Base Portsmouth.

Cribbs recently served as the deputy chief of cutter forces at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“I’m extremely proud of the Harriet Lane crew and their efforts in going above and beyond to ensure the cutter was always ready to carry out operations,” said Wasserman.

Wasserman will assume the duties of chief, major cutter forces for the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area, a Portsmouth command.

As commanding officer, Wasserman led the Harriet Lane’s 110-person crew on six patrols over the course of two years. Missions included search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, fisheries patrols, defense operations, and participation in two Joint Interagency Task Force South patrols, resulting in the disruption of millions of dollars of narcotics being smuggled into the United States.
The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition which formally restates that the continuity of command will be maintained and is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of command. It conveys to the officers, enlisted members, civilian employees and auxiliary members of the Coast Guard that although the authority of command is relinquished by a leader and is assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.
