Coast Guard Cutter Dependable returns home

PORTSMOUTH, Va., — The crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Dependable returned to their homeport in Cape May, New Jersey Sunday after a 47-day deployment in the Mid-Atlantic Ocean.

During the patrol the crew completed approximately 40 vessel inspections which were fishing for a variety of species from Tuna to Bait Fish.

In addition to law enforcement, the Diligence crew completed Tailored Ship’s Training Availability, an external review of the crew’s ability to respond to a variety of emergency, navigation, seamanship and engineering tasks.

For three weeks, the crew aboard the Dependable worked with Coast Guard and Navy inspectors to conduct a grand total of 110 drills and training evolutions receiving an overall score of 97 percent.

“The overall score is a testament to the crew’s outstanding efforts and execution in every area measured,” said Cmdr. Paul Gregg, commanding officer of the Diligence. “I am extremely proud of our performance and am happy that the crew can now enjoy some well earned rest and relaxation as we return home.”

The Dependable is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter with 85 crewmembers that conducts maritime safety, security, and stewardship operations in the waters stretching from the U.S. / Canadian maritime border off New England, to the Florida Straits and greater Caribbean Sea.
