Coast Guard Cutter Biscayne Bay Transports Man with Chest Pains

BEAVER ISLAND, Mich. — The Coast Guard Cutter Bicayne Bay transported a 67-year-old male experiencing chest pains from the Beaver Island Rural Health Center today at approximately 9 a.m.

The Biscayne Bay transferred the man to awaiting East Jordan Emergency Medical Services on shore in Charlevoix, Mich.

Emergency Medical Technicians from the clinc treated his cardiac event aboard the 140-foot cutter.

He was in stable condition upon transport.

Air Station Traverse City was en route to conduct a medical evacuation Friday at approximately 9:30 p.m. but were forced to return to base due to freezing rain.

The cutter was in Rock Island Pass at the entrance of Green Bay when it received the call at approximately 4 a.m.

It steamed 50 nautical miles to the health center in just four hours to take a break from the ice to help save a man’s life.
