Coast Guard crews tow disabled Monterey sailing vessel

47 Quillayute RiverSAN FRANCISCO – Coast Guard crewmembers assisted in towing the 26-foot sailing vessel Mimsy after it became disabled Wednesday morning about 30 miles southwest of Monterey.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco command center received notification at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday that the sailing vessel was disabled and adrift with one mariner aboard.

The operator stated the vessel became disabled when it lost its rigging during a recent storm.  The Coast Guard established a communications schedule with the mariner and at approximately 11:40 a.m., launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Monterey.  The rescue boatcrew arrived on scene at approximately 2:30 p.m. and placed the disabled vessel in tow.

The rescue boatcrew towed the Mimsy to Monterey, arriving at approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

No medical concerns were reported.
