Coast Guard crews searching for overboard ferry rider

BOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews, along with state and local agencies, are searching for a man who fell overboard from the Provincetown II ferry near Castle Island, Mass., at approximately 10:45 p.m., Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Boston crews received notification from the Provincetown II that a man had fallen into the water from the third deck.

The Coast Guard launched two boat crews from Coast Guard Station Boston and Coast Guard Station Point Allerton and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod. Sector Boston also diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Grand Isle to assist.

The ferry assisted in the search.

-MassPort Fire Department

“We are using a variety of Coast Guard, State and local agencies in the search,” said Cmdr. Sean Carroll, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Boston. “This is a significant, multi-agency effort.”

The air temperature is 74 degrees and the water is 65 degrees. Seas are calm with overcast skies.
