Coast Guard crews, Manatee County Sheriff’s department searching for 5-year-old

SARASOTA, Fla. — Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Cortez and Manatee County Sheriffs Department are searching for a five-year-old boy who went missing near Longboat Pass, Saturday.

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders requesting assistance in the search at 6:50 p.m.

A 25-foot Response Boat — Small crew, a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Cortez, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater were launched to assist in the search.

“The current search area is from Bradenton Beach to Whitney Beach encompassing both the Gulf and Intracoastal Waterway sides of Anna Marie Island and Longboat Key,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jordan Waters. “We are doing everything in our power to reunite this child with his family.”
