PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard medevaced an injured 22-year-old crewmember today from a merchant ship near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, N.C.
The Coast Guard was notified at 4:26 p.m. Monday by the crew of the Sichem Eva, a 496-foot Singapore-flagged merchant tank ship, reporting a crewmember had a dislocated jaw and needed medical attention.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Oak Island, N.C., met the Sichem Eva at the sea buoy near the mouth of the Cape Fear River at 7 a.m. today and transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical personnel on shore.
The patient was transported to Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, N.C., for treatment.
