Coast Guard crew assists fishing boat near Cape May

CAPE MAY, N.J. – The Coast Guard assisted two people aboard a 44-foot fishing boat 25 miles east of Cape May after they lost steering Wednesday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 1:55 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the Braveheart reporting they were not in distress but requesting assistance.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and took the Braveheart and its crew in tow and moored them safely in Cape May Harbor.

“Even though the crew of the Braveheart was not in distress, they called us for assistance”, said Petty Officer 3rd Class McCormick Kennedy, a crewmember at Coast Guard Station Cape May, “It was a cautious decision on their part.”
