Coast Guard coordinates rescue response with Navy

USS De WertMOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — The Coast Guard coordinated a rescue response for a 43-year-old male diver who was returned to the boat Sea Quest II, unconscious and unresponsive, 23 miles south of Morehead City, Sunday.

At 9:24 a.m. the Sea Quest II contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders, reporting that a diver needed immediate medical attention. Sector personnel issued an urgent marine information broadcast.

A Navy HS-60 helicopter from the USS De Wart responded to the UMIB and airlifted the man and took him to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
