Coast Guard Continues Search for Missing Snorkeler

HONOLULU – Search crews aboard a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point HH-65 Dolphin helicopter, along with crews from the Honolulu Police and Fire Department, are currently searching the south eastern coast of Oahu for a 38 year old snorkeler who was reported overdue from an excursion Saturday night.

The missing local man was reported to have left from Kaawa Beach with two other snorkelers at 10 p.m. last night. When his friends saw him get swept out to shore they contacted the emergency dispatch center in who then contacted the Coast Guard.

Saturday night a Coast Guard rescue helicopter crews air-dropped a radar beacon in what was estimated to be the snorkelers last known position. The beacon aides in determining the best search pattern because its drift indicates the prevailing current pattern at that location. Searches were focused along the beach seven miles south and two miles offshore of Kaneohe Bay.
