Coast Guard Continues Search for Missing Boaters

KEATON BEACH, Fla. – The Coast Guard is continuing the search for three overdue boaters aboard a 20-foot pleasure craft about 17-nautical-miles north of the Steinhatchee River, in Taylor County, Fla., who have been missing since Sunday evening.

Vannie Wetherington, 69, of Perry, Fla., her son Joe Wetherington, 43, of Atlanta, Ga., and his girlfriend, Kelly Trezek, 41, of Marietta, Ga., left late Sunday afternoon from their vacation-home dock in Keaton Beach, to go trout fishing and were to return Sunday evening.

The Coast Guard received a call from Keaton Beach Marina at about 5 p.m., Tuesday, reporting that the three boaters had not returned.

Rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., Coast Guard Air Station Mobile, Ala., Coast Guard Station Yankeetown, Fla., and several Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission units have been searching the area since about 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, for the overdue boaters.
