Coast Guard conducts pollution response training in Marinette, Wisconsin

MARINETTE, Wis. – Members from the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment (MSD) Sturgeon Bay will be conducting pollution response training beginning October 22, 24 and 28, 2008.

This is the second time MSD Sturgeon Bay has coordinated pollution response training, which included boom deployment exercises in Marinette, Wis. and Menominee, Mich. The Coast Guard will be coordinating the training with members from the Marinette Fire Department and the Marinette Marine Corporation.

The training will increase the interaction between the U. S. Coast Guard and local pollution response agencies in Marinette, Wis. and Menominee, Mich. and will improve pollution response knowledge in the unlikely event of a large scale incident.

Training will include a classroom discussion (Oct. 22 and 24, 2008) to cover response techniques and to address safety concerns. The classroom portion will be followed by actual containment boom deployment (Oct. 28, 2008) on the Menominee River.
