Coast Guard conducts medevac of man with severe burns

Coast Guard 8th District NewsHOUSTON — The Coast Guard conducted a medevac of a man from a cargo ship 230 miles south of Galveston, Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a request for a medevac at 8 a.m. from the M/V Selje. The vessel reported that a crewmember had suffered severe burns and was provided initial medical assistance by an EMT aboard the Selje.

A MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station Houston was dispatched and transported the man to awaiting EMS at the Galveston Airport at appoximately 1 p.m. A HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile was also deployed to provide assistance.
