NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Station Fire Island rescue crew medically evacuated a man near Fire Island, Saturday.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification at approximately 3:00 p.m., from a 72-foot passenger vessel that reported they had an unconscious 81-year old adult man aboard and requested a medical evacuation.
The passenger vessel also reported they had an emergency medical technician (EMT) aboard who was tending to the needs of the unconscious male.
Sector watchstandards launched a Station Fire Island 47-foot Motor Life boat (MLB) to assist.
The MLB was on scene in approximately 30 minutes and reported that the man had regained consciousness.
The station rescue crew carefully transferred the man, two family members, and the EMT aboard the MLB and safely transported them to Station Fire Island, N.Y., where emergency medical services were waiting.
