Coast Guard conducts long range medevac

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard conducted a long range medevac approximately 225 miles south-southeast of Houston this morning.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Air Station Houston received a call for assistance from the master of a cable laying ship at about 7:30 a.m., reporting that a 39-year-old crewman onboard had recently undergone heart surgery and was experiencing chest pains.

Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to medevac the man. Due to the extreme distance involved, Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, launched an HU-25 Falcon jet crew to assist with the helicopter’s radio communications.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene and safely picked up the crewman. The man was flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
