Coast Guard conducts long range medevac of injured crewmember

SAN DIEGO – An MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a man from a tank ship 130 miles west of San Diego Monday afternoon.

The crew of the Riga, a 749-foot Latvian-flagged vessel, notified the Coast Guard of the Latvian man’s condition Monday morning. After consulting a Coast Guard flight surgeon, it was determined that the man needed to be medevaced and receive immediate medical attention.

At 11:58 a.m., Monday, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man from the ship and safely transported him to Sector San Diego where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
