During the training, a rescue swimmer is lowered out of a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter onto a cliff and then hoisted back into the aircraft to simulate an actual cliff rescue. The training helps familiarize the entire aircrew with how to operate around steep rock faces as it poses a significant risk.

The Coast Guard urges the public not to climb on beach cliffs and obey all posted warning signs. People most often become stranded on a cliff after climbing up but not being able to climb back down to safety.
