A C-130 Hercules aircraft, from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, landed safely at 3:03 p.m. after a crewmember noticed a vibrating sound coming from one of the engines.
The aircrew made the determination to land utilizing only three engines, and at 2:50 p.m. contacted PIE airport air traffic control to conduct an emergency landing.
“We conducted emergency landing procedures out of precaution,” said Lt. j.g. Jeffery Henkel, the co-pilot of the aircraft. “Quick thinking by a well trained crew made a scary situation safe and routine.”
