Coast Guard Band to perform during National Christmas Tree lighting

The U.S. Coast Guard Band is scheduled to perform during the National Christmas Tree Lighting in Washington Thursday at 5 p.m. on the Ellipse at the White House.NEW LONDON, Conn. – The U.S. Coast Guard Band is scheduled to perform during the National Christmas Tree Lighting in Washington Thursday at 5 p.m. on the Ellipse at the White House.

This year marks the 87th lighting of the National Christmas Tree, lit each winter by the President amid celebration and fanfare.

Other musical performers include Grammy award-winning group Maroon 5; singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles; blues artist B.B. King; Common, the hip-hop star and actor; the soprano singer Jackie Evancho; and Jim James, the front man for My Morning Jacket. The event will also highlight First Lady Michelle Obama reading ’Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore.

The website of the National Christmas Tree Lighting, www.thenationaltree.org, will stream the event live. Taped broadcasts will be aired on CPTV and WEDH in Connecticut Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. and on WGBH Boston Dec. 22 at 8 p.m.
