Coast Guard Auxiliary offers passenger-vessel inspections

GRAND HAVEN, Mich.- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary here is offering courtesy, dockside inspections for passenger vessels this season.

The inspections will cover equipment and operating requirements, drug-testing program regulations, licensing requirements and pollution-prevention regulations.

Uninspected passenger vessel operators will be allowed to pick the time and location where the inspection will take place and, upon completion of a satisfactory examination, will be given a windshield sticker indicating that the vessel is in compliance with the applicable regulations.

“Our primary goal is to obtain 100 percent compliance with the applicable passenger vessel regulations,” said Chief Petty Officer Thomas Hemminger, Chief Marine Science Technician for Coast Guard Sector Field Office Grand Haven.

Voluntary inspections can be scheduled by calling the Coast Guard Sector Field Office Grand Haven Auxiliary’s dockside examination line at (616) 850-2588.

“Because charter vessels carry the most valuable cargo, people, the Coast Guard enforces regulations pertaining to passenger vessels,” said Hemminger.
