Coast Guard, Auxiliary, NJ marine police to host boating safety open house

5th Coast Guard District NewsATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the New Jersey State Marine Police are scheduled to hold a boating safety open house for the public Saturday at 10 a.m. here.

Members of Coast Guard Station Atlantic City will be offering tours of their rescue boats and the station.  A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City will be performing a search and rescue demonstration at 12 p.m. and a coast guard cutter, moored at the station, will also be available for tours. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting a rescue flare demonstration and various knot-tying and seamanship demonstrations during the event.

In addition, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering free vessel safety checks at the Farley State Marina at 9 a.m. throughout the day and have boating safety information booths at the open house with the New Jersey State Marine Police.

“This joint effort between the Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police and the Coast Guard Auxiliary is a great opportunity for families to interact with rescue and law enforcement personnel while learning about boating safety,” said Lt. Jeff Craig, commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Atlantic City.

Farley State Marina is located at 600 Huron Ave, Atlantic City, N.J., 08401, near the station.
