Coast Guard Atlantic Area Attorney chosen as “Outstanding Career Armed Services Attorney for the Coast Guard”

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Lt. Cmdr. Michael Antonellis will be awarded the “Outstanding Career Armed Services Attorney for the Coast Guard” at the Judge Advocates Association, the Judge Advocates Foundation and the American Bar Association awards banquet Wednesday, May 16 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. The JAA, JAF and ABA annually present awards to current, former and retired Judge Advocates.

Antonellis, a Chesapeake, Va., native, will be recognized for his distinguished performance of duty during an 11-year career reflecting exceptional professional accomplishment, scholarship, leadership, community involvement, and service to the legal profession and practice of military law as a judge advocate in the U.S. Coast Guard.

“Lt. Cmdr. Antonellis is an enthusiastic advocate and accomplished leader in the Coast Guard,” said Capt. Peter L. Seidler, Staff Judge Advocate, Coast Guard Atlantic Area, Fifth District and Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic. “He has used his unique experience as a U.S. merchant mariner to develop security procedures for Liquefied Natural Gas tankers to safely deliver cargo to downtown Boston immediately following the Sept. 11 attack and among other duties, he has directed focused enforcement of maritime environmental crimes in the mid-Atlantic.”

Antonellis was evaluated on his professional accomplishments, service to community, leadership, service to the legal profession and development of subordinates.

“This is truly one of the highlights of my career as a judge advocate,” Antonellis said. “The confidence in my abilities and the mentorship I’ve received over the years from the community of judge advocates in the Coast Guard and the sister services continues to inspire me.”

The JAA, organized in 1943, is a national professional legal organization exclusively dedicated to Judge Advocates and practitioners of military and veterans’ law.
