Coast Guard assists with search and recovery of hiker off Tillamook Head

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard assisted the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Dept. with the search for and recovery of a hiker from Tillamook Head between Cannon Beach, Ore., and Seaside, Ore., Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a request from the sheriff’s dept., at 2:29 p.m., to assist a land-based search party with locating a 26-year-old female hiker. Columbia River diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to assist.

The hiker was located by the helicopter crew who then directed the land-based search party to the hikers location. The search party escorted the hiker to an area of open ground, which allowed for a safe hoist to the Coast Guard helicopter. The hiker was recovered by the Coast Guard and transported to Seaside Airport. No injuries were reported.
