Coast Guard assists with search after recreational vessels collide

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard assisted Benton County authorities in a search for a person in the water after two recreational vessels collided on the Columbia River in Kennewick, Wash., at approximately 7:55 p.m. yesterday.

Several people were injured and one remains unaccounted for.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. a helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria and a vessel crew from Aids to Navigation Team Kennewick were launched to assist with the search.

As of 6:20 a.m. the person has still not been located and Benton County authorities are continuing the search, including the use of divers.

The Coast Guard is broadcasting a no wake zone message and instructing vessels in the area of the accident to maintain low speeds and proceed with caution.
