Coast Guard assists Sheriff in locating fishing boat captain

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard assisted the Saint Tamanny Parish Sherrif’s Department in finding the body of a fishing boat captain 3 miles east of the highway 90 bridge early this morning.

At 1:25 a.m., St. Tammany’s Sherrif’s Department reported to the Coast Guard that the captain of a fishing vessel had fallen in the water and then disappeared. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans immediately launched a HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew to assist.

The helicopter crew located the body approximately 3 miles from the vessel and passed the location to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department, who recovered the body.
