SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated a 54-year-old man suffering from possible head and back injuries aboard a charter fishing boat approximately 125 miles south of San Diego, early Monday morning.

The U.S.-flagged fishing boat Apollo contacted the Coast Guard around 8 p.m. Sunday, requesting assistance for the man who had fallen about eight feet down a ladder.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Sector San Diego at approximately 9:50 p.m. and flew to the 59-foot vessel’s location.

Once on scene, the Jayhawk crew hoisted the patient from the Apollo and transported him back to San Diego, where the man was transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care at approximately 12:30 a.m.
