Coast Guard Assists Injured Man North of Hilo

HONOLULU — A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point medically evacuated an injured man this morning 40 miles north of Hilo.

The Coast Guard received a call from the sport fishing vessel’s crew at 8:45 a.m. Sunday concerning a 30-year-old male crewmember who was feeling ill aboard the 28-foot sport fishing vessel Chelse Lynn.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the crewmembers of the Chelse Lynn tend to the ill man while awaiting the Coast Guard rescue crew.

The injured man was transported to Hilo Medical Center on The Big Island.
