Coast Guard rescues elderly man, two dogs near Wrangell

JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew assisted the Alaska State Troopers to rescue an elderly man and his two dogs three miles north of Wrangell near Garnet Ridge Sunday at 2:06 a.m.

The Coast Guard received a report from personnel who volunteer for Wrangell mountain rescue stating an elderly man was stranded on Limb Island with two dogs and was unable to return to Wrangell.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew departed Sitka and was able to safely land and rescue him with his two dogs.

The helicopter crew transported them to awaiting emergency medical service personnel at the Wrangell airport who then transferred him to the Wrangell Medical Center.
