Coast Guard and partner agencies search for missing diver

SAN DIEGO − U.S. Coast Guard crews, lifeguards and a fire department helicopter crew are searching for a scuba diver after she failed to surface for a designated checkpoint approximately one and a half miles west of Mission Beach, Saturday.

A Mission Beach lifeguard contacted the Coast Guard at 2:29 p.m., reporting the diver did not surface after 45 minutes while diving at the USS Yukon dive site with a dive trip aboard the 45-foot San Diego-based motor vessel Humboldt.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, Coast Guard 45-foot response boat crew, a San Diego Fire Department helicopter crew, Mission Bay lifeguard boat crew and a Mission Bay Lifeguard dive team are currently on scene searching for the diver who is reportedly in her early 20’s.
