Coast Guard and local law enforcement searching for missing swimmer off Fort DeSoto Park

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard and local law enforcement are searching for a missing swimmer off Fort DeSoto Park in St. Petersburg Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a 911 relay call, reporting that a 27 year-old-man was missing after he disappeared while swimming in the waters near Bunces Pass in Fort DeSoto Park, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Wednesday. Two friends of the missing man called 911 after they noticed the swimmer had not resurfaced.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., and a 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg are searching in conjunction with two Pinellas County Sheriff boatcrews, a Pinellas County Fire boatcrew, an Eckerd College rescue boatcrew, and a Pinellas County Sheriff helicopter.
