Coast Guard and Edisto Beach Fire Department assist two stranded kayakers

Southeastern Coast Guard NewsCHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard, along with members of the Edisto Beach Fire Department, assisted two kayakers stranded on a beach Thursday near Otter Island, S.C.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified of two kayakers being pulled out into the sea in the vicinity of Edisto Beach by local dispatch at 10:52 a.m.

The kayakers eventually made their way to the beach near Otter Island.

A  crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston was diverted from a training mission to assist at 11:55 a.m. The aircrew arrived at the kayakers’ location and lowered a radio to them. The helicopter crew directed a boat crew from the Edisto Beach Fire Department to the kayakers’ position. The Edisto Beach Fire Department boat crew picked up the kayakers at 12:50 p.m.

The kayakers reported no injuries and were transported to Edisto Island Yacht Club.
