Coast Guard airlifts 3 from grounded sailing vessel on Molokai

HONOLULU — The U.S. Coast Guard airlifted three men from a disabled sailing vessel approximately four and a half miles east of Moloka`i Friday night.

The master of the 40-foot sailing vessel, No Hurries, reported to the Coast Guard at 9 p.m. Nov. 28, his vessel had run aground east of Hale O’ Lono Harbor in a surf zone.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point was on scene within an hour and hoisted the three men to safety. The rescued crew were taken to Air Station Barbers Point and released to City and County of Honolulu emergency medical services personnel.

The vessel remains anchored and grounded with no pollution threats. No injuries were reported by either the remaining crew members or to the three men airlifted off the sailing vessel.

The sailing vessel’s owner intends to attempt to remove the vessel from the reef today.
