Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak medevacs cruise ship crewman southeast of Cordova

JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrew aboard an HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter safely medevaced a 38-year-old Indonesian crewmember off the cruise ship Ryndam 110 miles southeast of Cordova Monday.

The 17th Coast Guard District command center in Juneau received a call from the Ryndam via satellite phone at approximately 6:55 p.m. requesting a medevac for a crewmember reportedly suffering from weakness and loss of consciousness.

A Station Kodiak Dolphin aircrew pre-deployed in Cordova was diverted from a training mission at 7:48 p.m. after the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended the man be medevaced. Once on scene, the Dolphin safely hoisted the crewmember and transferred him to Valdez where local emergency medical services were waiting.

The patient was reported in stable condition.
