Coast Guard air crew medically evacuates 77-year-old woman from Beaver Island in Lake Michigan

d9CLEVELAND — A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew medically evacuated a 77-year-old woman suffering from chest pain from Beaver Island, Mich., located in Lake Michigan, Friday afternoon.

At 1:45 p.m., a search-and-rescue controller at Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., was contacted by personnel from the Beaver Island Rural Health Center who requested help transporting the woman to a hospital capable of providing a higher level of care.

A rescue air crew aboard an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Mich., and picked up the woman at the Beaver Island Airport. The air crew transported her to the air station where emergency medical services personnel were waiting. EMS further transported the woman to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

The woman was last known to be in stable condition.
