Coast Guard air crew honored for evacuating injured man

SEATTLE – Four members of Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., were honored in a ceremony Friday for evacuating an injured man near Forks, Wash., last June.

Washington State Lt. Governor Brad Owen presented a certificate to Lt. Winston Wood, Lt. Dan Broadhurst, Petty Officer 1st Class Timothy Adams and Petty Officer 2nd Class Shawn Pugmire for their efforts to evacuate Stephen Gordon Gracey after he became injured near Forks June 8, 2007.

On behalf of Governor Christine Gregoire, Owen also honored the HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew with a proclamation making April 4 Washington State Coast Guard Appreciation Day.

The helicopter crew hoisted Gracey more than 240 feet from the ground and transported him to a local hospital.
