Coast Guard Aids Injured Mariner

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard responded to a report of a mariner who suffered a hand injury while working on the Little Annemessex River today.

Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a call from a crewmember aboard the F/V Jason II at about 2:30 p.m. today reporting that a crewmember aboard the Miss Angie, a 35-foot dredger homeported in Smith Island, Md., had caught his hand in a winch while working in the Little Annemessex River. A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Crisfield, Md., launched a 25-foot response boat to the scene. The injured mariner, Johnny Marshall, had freed himself from the winch prior to the Coast Guards arrival, but sustained severe damage to his left hand. Marshall was brought aboard the Coast Guard boat and taken to the Downtown City Pier in Crisfield where he was met by awaiting EMS personnel.

Marshall was taken by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
