PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard Activities Europe staff moved its operations from Rotterdam to its new location at the U.S. Army Garrison in Schinnen, Netherlands Monday.
With a complement staff of 32, Coast Guard Activities Europe has been in Rotterdam since June 1995 as a tenant of the U.S. Army’s Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command and 598th Transportation Brigade Headquarters facility located there. The Coast Guard staff move follows the 598th’s relocation to the Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany during the summer of this year.
“Base Schinnen is the closest facility to Rotterdam, providing the particular services we require while keeping the unit accessible to major airports servicing the ACTEUR area of responsibility,” Coast Guard Capt. John Kenyon, commanding officer of Activities Europe.
Coast Guard operations in the unit’s area of responsibility will not be affected by this move.
ACTEUR’s missions include marine inspections, marine casualty investigations and international port security throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
